How to clean skateboard wheels

Posted on August 11, 2021 By Eric Kennedy

How to clean skateboard wheels when stuck on dirt

The wheel is an important part of the skateboard. Without it, the skateboard cannot function properly. Sometimes when moving too much, the skateboard wheel will get dirty. Then it will be very difficult to move as usual. So you need to know how to clean the skateboard when it gets dirty. This article will give you specific steps to guide you.

Remove the wheel from the skateboard

This is the first step in how to clean skateboard. The tool needed to remove the wheel is a wrench. You need to turn the skateboard upside down, pointing the wheel to the sky. Keeping the skateboard deck still, use a wrench to unscrew the nuts and set the nut aside. Remove the wheel from the skateboard.

In this step, you need to take care to store all screws, what has been removed carefully, not to lose anything. Because when you install it all back to its original position, it will not be complete without screws.

Use a tool to remove the bearings from the wheel

You need to use an iron bar to pop the truck axle off the wheel. Do the same with all 4 skateboard wheels. Simply put, it’s like opening a bottle cap. Just take such steps. Finally, the bearings will be removed.

The bearings are very small, so they need to be handled with care. Put them in an inconspicuous and safe place that’s easy to remember. In the skateboard wheel there will be a ball bearing spacer. Be careful and keep it so that when assembling the wheel there is no shortage of tools.

Clean the dust in the wheel

Before wiping with water, the dust should be cleaned. Because otherwise the wheel will not be cleaned. You need to use a dry, waterproof rag. Then wipe off all the dust on the wheel. For stubborn stains, you need to prepare some additional tools such as a brush. However, you should not rub too hard. Please wipe gently to avoid scratches.

Soak the wheel in a mixture of water and soap

This step is to let the stubborn stains dissolve into the water. Soaking time in water is about 10 minutes, and should not be left too long. You should use warm water, not cold water. Put hot water in a bucket then add a little soap and stir well. Put the wheel in the mixture in the bucket and soak.

Wipe the wheel clean again

After soaking the wheel for 10 minutes, take it out. Use a damp rag to wring it out. You must prepare a clean rag to clean the wheel. Thoroughly clean the wheel, not letting soap get on it. This step is the most important cleaning step, so you must be very careful when cleaning.

Wipe until you see the wheel is almost dry. Then let it dry in a cool and dry place before assembling them into the skateboard. Do not assemble while the wheel is wet, as it will become dirty again. This is the final step in how to clean skateboard wheels.

Cleaning skateboard wheels is relatively easy. But you have to apply step by step to be able to completely clean. While soaking the wheel, do not put the bearings together because it is easy to damage.

Just apply the how to clean skateboard wheels through the specific steps above. You will completely remove the stains clinging to it. Pay careful attention to each step so you don’t run into problems. Hopefully with the information shared above, you will have more experience in cleaning skateboard wheels.
