Connect the Sound Bar to a TV

Posted on February 21, 2022 By Eric Kennedy

Connect the Sound Bar to a TV

Connections vary depending on the model of your TV and Sound Bar.

If your TV has an HDMI port that supports Audio Return Channel, you’ll need to verify that (ARC).

HDMI ports that support ARC will be marked ARC on their HDMI ports.

NOTE

The HT-CT660 is used as a case study in the examples given.

The position of the terminals will vary based on your operating system.

See the manual for more information.

Avoid placing objects on top of the Subwoofer if one is included with your Sound Bar.

There is a risk that any goods placed on top of the Subwoofer will fall.

If your TV has an HDMI terminal that supports ARC

When connecting to the latest BRAVIA models or any other TV equipped with HDMI terminals that support ARC, use an HDMI cable (sold separately) to connect the HDMI IN (ARC) terminal on the TV to the TV OUT (ARC) terminal on the Sound Bar. If connecting to any other TV equipped with HDMI terminals that support ARC, use an HDMI cable (sold separately) to connect the HDMI IN (ARC) terminal on the TV to the TV OUT (ARC) terminal on the Sound Bar.

The ARC function will not function if you connect to an HDMI terminal that does not have this label.

PLEASE NOTE:

If your television is equipped with an HDMI port (without ARC) as well as an optical digital audio out port,

Some BRAVIA models, as well as any other TV with an HDMI IN terminal that does not support ARC, can be connected to the TV OUT (ARC) terminal on the Sound Bar by using an HDMI cable (available separately) to link the HDMI IN terminal on the TV to the TV OUT (ARC) terminal on the Sound Bar.

After that, connect the optical digital audio output of the TV to the OPTICAL IN port on the Sound Bar.

It is important to connect an optical digital audio connection in order to hear the audio from the television (sold separately).

The HDMI cable (available separately) from the external device to the TV should be used when connecting an external device to the TV (without ARC and Sound Bar).

Next, connect the external device to the Sound Bar by means of an optical connection cable (sold separately).

It is not required to use the HDMI connection if you only intend to connect to the television.

The use of the TV’s remote control for functions such as power interlock and volume control will not be possible

If your TV does not have HDMI input (with optical digital audio out terminal)

Connect the optical digital audio output terminal on the TV to the OPTICAL IN terminal on the Sound Bar. This will create an optical digital audio output signal.

When other devices are connected to the Sound Bar through HDMI IN 1 to HDMI IN 3, the Sound Bar can play the sounds from those devices, but the TV screen is unable to display any visuals due to a lack of image resolution.

If your TV does not have HDMI input (without optical digital audio out terminal)

Output sound from the Sound Bar

Following the connection, follow the steps outlined below to generate sound.
1. Turn on your television.
Start by turning on your Sound Bar.
3. On your television, change the audio output setting from TV to audio system (or vice versa).
It may be essential to change the Sound Bar settings to TV depending on your specific model. If there is no sound coming from your Sound Bar system, check the settings on your Sound Bar system. Refer to the operating instructions that came with your Sound Bar system for more information on how to use it.
