The original axles provided by BMW for the twins were a sort of industrial chrome over a finely machined finish. The threaded ends were "Parkerized" with a Black Oxide finish to prevent corrosion.

Our Stainless Steel Axles (Top pair in photo) are an accurate reproduction of the finely machined finish of the originals, but in corrosion resistant stainless steel.

The bottom axle in the photo is an incorrectly 'rechromed' and highly polished axel; while immediately above that is an original front axle. Visible on the threaded end is the Black Oxide finish.
